My clinical approach is influenced by psychodynamic principles and includes CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and family systems theory. Psychodynamic therapy is based on the fundamental understanding that much of mental and emotional life is outside of our conscious awareness. Many people try to improve their lives through conscious determination but unwittingly find themselves repeating painful and self-defeating patterns. If you are continually unresolved in an important part of your life, or live with anxiety/depression that never seems to go away, psychodynamic therapy could help you move toward the life that you want.
My style is interactive. Together, my clients and I create a respectful and trusting therapeutic relationship. I believe that psychotherapy is best approached as an open-ended process that concludes when the client feels that their goals have been met. Brief treatments can be arranged when there are time limitations, but my approach is neither short-term, nor long-term. Together we will discover when the time is right to bring the work to a close. I find that for many clients, the most transformative therapy encompasses all aspects of a client’s life, including exploration of past experiences as they currently impact the present. I am successful in helping my clients attain their personal goals, which may shift or expand as the therapy evolves.
Appointments are typically scheduled on a weekly basis, but can also be arranged more frequently, 2 – 3 times per week. Meeting more intensively can often help clients resolve difficulties more efficiently in less time. I am also available to my clients on email between appointments, and offer video conferencing when in-person meetings are difficult to schedule.
